  3. Although the P-38 was the first Allied 
  4. fighter to engage the Luftwaffe's Me 163 
  5. rocket fighter, it never actually 
  6. encountered the Me 262.  This is mainly 
  7. due to the fact that the P-38 had been 
  8. mostly phased out of service in the 
  9. European Theater by the time the 262 
  10. arrived in number.  Had they met in 
  11. combat, the German jet would have held 
  12. the upper hand in every way except for 
  13. turning radius.  Like the other American 
  14. fighters, the P-38 would have needed an 
  15. initial altitude advantage of at least 3,000 
  16. feet to catch the Me 262, which possessed 
  17. a top speed over 120 mph faster than the 
  18. Lightning.

  22. Scramble your schwarm of Me 262s from 
  23. Brandenburg to intercept the B-17s en 
  24. route to bomb the Marienfelde Engine 
  25. Factory.  The bombers are escorted by
  26. P-38s, so watch your tail and maintain a 
  27. high rate of speed.
